Easy Voters Guide
Graphic Designer Needed for Easy to Read Voter Guide.
Build your design portfolio while engaging in a fun, interesting project that will spread the word about the fall elections. The Guide was developed using InDesign and printed by a commercial printer. The graphic designer's role is to compile information provided by the League of Women Voters and the Literacy Volunteers of Maine for literacy level review.
The format has already been developed so that it is not necessary to create it from scratch, although a designer could adapt it for style reasons if s/he were so inclined. The time commitment is estimated to be about 15 hours over a tight time frame from August 15 - September 15 when the final text is due to the printer.
The goal of the Easy to Read Voter Guide is to provide a written and electronic format to guide citizens to understand the election and voting process, identify where to vote, understand the issues on the fall ballot and select candidates for elected offices of Governor and member of the U.S. House of Representatives.
The Voter Guide will be distributed statewide through libraries, adult education centers, and other organizations. To apply for this volunteer opportunity, visit www.volunteermaine.org.

Here are the issues we're following:
- Civil Liberties
- Clean Elections & Campaign Finance Reform
- Repeal of Term Limits
- Voting Rights
- Civil Rights
- Conduct of Elections
- Freedom of Information
- Ethics & Disclosure
If you're interested in helping us track one or more of these issues, volunteer for the Lobby Corps! Call or e-mail for more information: lwvme@gwi.net or call 622-0256.
Join the PAC Study Committee
We're working on a major study, Money in Politics: PACs in Maine. We're focusing on candidate PACs to understand how they're funded, how they influence candidate elections, and what changes, if any, should be proposed to limit the influence of private money on elected officials. Read more about it.
The Study Committee meets every two or three weeks. It's all so interesting! To join the Study Committee, call or email LWVME at (207) 622.0256 or lwvme@gwi.net.
New Citizens
The Portland Area League has an ongoing program to pass out voter registration cards at naturalization ceremonies for new citizens. This is a year-round project,
and we need more volunteers. Read all about it here. If you are interested, please
contact us at PortlandAreaLWV@att.net. It is among the most satisfying work any League member can
ever do.
