We're always on the mission to protect voting rights, advocate for democracy reform, get big money out of politics, and safeguard free and fair elections. The Maine League stands out among any other state Leagues because of the momentum we carry behind our membership, volunteer efforts, and advocacy work.
This year's Convention will be a hybrid event. You can attend in-person in Augusta or virtually via Zoom.

What is Convention?
Every two years, we host a Convention in which League members elect officers and directors, adopt programs, make bylaws changes, and adopt a budget. It's a formality common to every State League, but it's also an exciting opportunity to network and engage on relevant issues with fellow League members and with national and state experts.
League members and friends will meet in Augusta and online on Saturday, June 3rd from 9 to 3:30. We hope you’ll join us at the Holocaust and Human Rights Center or via Zoom from the comfort of your own home.
Convention brings the League together to chart its future, celebrate its successes, and recommit to our mission of empowering voters and defending democracy. We’ve lined up terrific speakers to inform and inspire us. We’ve planned workshops and other activities to help us get to know each other, build our skills and knowledge, and strengthen our local chapters. We’ll set the course for the next two years by electing our officers and board members and by voting on our budget and program.
While all are welcome at Convention, only League members vote. Convention is democracy in action, with members exercising their voting rights to decide the future of our organization. Not sure if you are a current member? Email Nadya Mullen at nadya@lwvme.org or call (207) 622-0256. You can also join online. Visit this link to learn more about joining up and what it means to participate as a member of the League: www.lwvme.org/member.
While we are thrilled to be able to host an in-person Convention this year, we are also committed to making Convention as inclusive and accessible as possible. We understand that not everyone has the capacity to travel to Augusta. Members participating on Zoom will be able to watch keynote speakers, participate in the workshops with breakout rooms, and vote. We’ll send you the Convention booklet and other materials in advance so that you have everything you need to make informed decisions during the voting process.
Register for Convention by visiting the links above. Select how you would like to attend (in-person or via Zoom). If you’re attending via Zoom, we encourage you to register by May 19 so that you will receive the Convention booklet and materials in time for the event.
It’s our policy that we never want cost to be a barrier to participation. While membership dues and registration fees are necessary and important sources of revenue for our organization, there is always a “pay what you can” or a no-cost option for folks who share our mission and want to participate. Join us!
