The League of Women Voters of Maine/Democracy Maine is pleased to announce its next Executive Director, Chrissy Hart. Hart will lead the powerful, grassroots organization into a new era of impact, empowering voters and protecting democracy.
Chrissy Hart brings together decades of global advocacy experience and a deep belief that a healthy democracy depends on informed, engaged, and empowered people—especially at the state and local level.
Chrissy has spent more than twenty years working at the intersection of policy, research, and action, helping turn big ideas into real-world impact. Her career spans global nonprofits, academic institutions, and the United Nations, where she has led initiatives to advance human rights, gender equality, and protections for children and marginalized communities.
Most recently, Chrissy served as Senior Director of Data to Action at Together for Girls. There, she led a coalition of advocates and survivors to secure strong, measurable commitments from the U.S. government delegation to the first-ever Global Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence Against Children in Bogotá, Colombia. She also played a key role in organizing and training advocates for Capitol Hill lobby days, strengthening the U.S. response to child protection both domestically and globally. Her work consistently bridges leveraging data and evidence to inform advocacy that builds political will to drive policy change.
Previously, Chrissy held policy advocacy and research roles at UN Women, the UN Trust Fund to End Violence Against Women, Women Thrive Alliance, the University of Denver’s Human Trafficking Center, and RFK Human Rights. Her first political role was interning for Senator Chuck Schumer as a high schooler. Early in her career, after stints interning on Capitol Hill and for a DC lobby firm, she served as a U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer in Burkina Faso, where she worked to promote girls’ education and empowerment—an experience that continues to shape her approach to leadership and community-driven change.
Chrissy holds a B.A. in Political Science from Colgate University and an M.A. in Human Rights from the University of Denver’s Josef Korbel School of Global and Public Affairs. She is proficient in French, a lifelong learner, and a self-described bookworm.
Democracy Maine is a groundbreaking collaboration between the League of Women Voters Maine, Maine Citizens for Clean Elections, and Maine Students Vote. Together, with a coalition of activists, volunteers, and policy experts, the organization has led campaigns that brought Clean Elections, Ranked Choice Voting, and the National Popular Vote to Maine.
